Gypsum Board

Gypsum Board, also called drywall or plasterboard, is a flat panel made from a gypsum core between two layers of heavy face paper. The gypsum provides fire resistance and rigidity, while the paper creates a smooth finishing surface and gives drywall screws a surface to grip. Tapered and square edge options support different wall, trim, and double-layer installation requirements.

Product Description

Gypsum board is used with drywall screws in interior wall and ceiling construction. Its layered structure combines a rigid gypsum core with paper faces that support surface finishing.

Edge Options

Tapered Edge Both long edges are slightly thinner. When two boards meet, they form a shallow V-groove that can be filled flush with joint tape and compound. This edge is intended for walls that will be finished.

Square Edge The board has no taper and is used where edges meet trims or in double-layer systems.

Performance

Fire Resistance Gypsum contains chemically bound water that absorbs heat and releases steam when heated, slowing the temperature rise.

Moisture Regular board can sag or warp when exposed to water. Green board is used in wet zones.

Acoustic Performance Gypsum board provides some acoustic performance but should be paired with insulation and sound clips when greater soundproofing is required.
